Hello! I'm Kayla (she/her)
What draws me to birth work?
Before my love affair with birth work, I worked in the mining engineering industry and always felt that there was a deeper calling ahead for me. I longed for passion, excitement, and creativity in my work. While pregnant with my first child in 2012, I began hunting for information and ways to calm my fears and anxieties surrounding childbirth - and that's when I heard "the call." After hiring a doula for my own birth and realizing how reassuring and empowering it felt to have that support, I knew that I wanted to help other families feel that courage and power within themselves too. I gained wisdom through my own birth experience and learned that we have very little control over how our birth unfolds. And, despite that, we can still feel heard, supported, and empowered with the right support team!
I've supported birthing families for over eight years as a Birth Doula and Childbirth Educator and am now in school for Nursing. My dream to be a second attendant for the Edmonton area Registered Midwives will soon come to fruition!
I am actively involved in the birth community, working as the Manager at Lucina Birth Centre, a Certified Birth Doula with DONA International, and a former Birthing From Within Doula & Educator. I am also a proud member of ASAC (the Association for Safe Alternatives in Childbirth), DAE (the Doula Association of Edmonton) and have attended the Spinning Babies® Workshop.
My husband and I are originally from Ontario and have two little wildlings of our own and are sure that, one day, we will figure out how to balance parenthood with marriage, leisure, hobbies, and work.
